RAIN ~ SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON

Personality~
Rain is a fun-loving individual. She lives to have fun, but at the same time knows there is a time and a place for that. She’s extremely well-mannered and very mature for her age. Or, at least, she always was while growing up. She’s very intelligent about nature, science, medicine and anything down that line. However, when it comes to actual street smarts and book smarts, Rain has a lot to learn. She reads at a very basic level and writes at a very basic level, as well. Until just a few years ago she had very little need to read or write. However, she is very creative and can tell wondrous stories to distract those from her poor writing style. In fact, she gets a kick out of it. She’s rather mischievous at times, not minding to get into some trouble as long as it is harmless. But, once she forms her opinion on something, nothing will change it. Rain is beyond stubborn and will force you into agreeing with her just so that you can move on.
History ~
Raina's family has had a hard way to go. From the time when her parents were young to today, nothing has ever come very easy. To start with, Her mother, Marianella, was half Native American, half Hispanic-American. She was raised as your average every day American on a ranch in the Dakotas for the first sixteen years of her life. It was then that her mother passed away from a tragic accident on the ranch. Her father instantly sold the ranch and moved to Oklahoma's Indian reserve in order to live with his family. He was unemployed, drank much, and basically became depressed. Marianella tried her hardest to keep things going smoothly from day to day.
And that would be where she met her future husband. Elki. He was full on Indian, son of her father's best friend. He worked hard, planned to one day be chief, and had an interest in Marianella. He was much older than Marianella but was fascinated with her odd, new outlook on life. It was love at first sight for him. For Marianella? She wanted nothing to do with him. She only went to him as a last resort when she couldn’t afford to support their small family.
Nonetheless, at eighteen, Marianellla couldn’t take it anymore. She went out and managed to get completely drunk off her father's alcohol. And, one thing just seemed to lead to another until she ended up sleeping with Elki. Long story short, she was pregnant. Though, Marianella choose to not tell Elki. She had a boyfriend at the time, and decided it to be best if she just blame him for the baby. Nine months later, miss Raina popped out. Raina soon became known simply as Rain.
She grew up on the Indian reserve. Elki became chief. Marianella's father continued to drink and be depressed. Marianella’s boyfriend seemed to just join in on the drinking and depression. And, with all the stress, Marianella, too, began to take on both a slight drinking and depression of her own. Elki seemed to be around more and more to care for the small family. He had a soft spot for Rain, and would often take her out. He taught her to ride horses, to climb trees, to hunt. He was basically her father, and Marianella soon realized that. She eventually grew to love him. So, it was on Raina’s seventh birthday that she finally gave her boyfriend the boot. She told the truth, he fled the tribe and Elki was in shock. Rain didn’t really think any different, as she never really liked her mother’s boyfriend.
So, by the time Rain was ten, Elki and Marianella were finally married. While her parents were busy, she would often sneak off. She loved animals, nature, running. In fact, she'd often sneak off with her father's horses and go riding for hours on end. Sometimes, when far enough from the reserve, she would get off the horse and just run through the tall grasses. It was relaxing. Until one day. Out by herself and around the age of twelve, Rain wasn't paying attention. She was in the woods during hunting season. A man came through, accidentally shot her in the leg and left. Hours later, Elki came looking for her. He managed to carry her back home, nursed her back to health, and then put her on stricter patrol. When she could walk again, Rain still managed to sneak out. She still has the scar from the bullet today and sometimes finds herself limping after a while of being on her feet. Not enough to slow her down, though.
This was pretty much how things stayed up until she turned nineteen. Her grandfather passed away and Marianella fell into a full on depression. So much so that she left Elki, bought an apartment in the city, and denied ever being Indian. She pulled Rain with her, trying to be just a normal American. Elki didn't have that, however. He didn’t want Marianella to be forced to live on her own, and he loved both girls too much to let them try. He left the Indian tribe, giving up everything, as well. Fleeing after Marianella, he soon wedged his way back in. He tried to adapt to a society that he had never known, even attempting to get a job. He tried to get Marianella help, and eventually got her on medicine for the depression. After many months of counseling, things were starting to look up.
Eventually, the family went down to the social security office and applied for numbers. That required both a stable first, middle, and last name. Raina’s parents sat down and went through various names for her. Since they couldn't decide on a name, they went with the less traditional spelling (but still Hispanic, like Marianella) of Raina’s first name. Her middle name became an Indian word for 'I love you,' Nayeli. And their last name became the name of the tribe that many of Elki’s and Marianella’s ancestors were once a part of, Lakota.
And then Rain turned twenty, and Elki decided it best to leave the city. He knew Marianella couldn't yet handle the reserve, so he looked into realestate. A man suggested Diznae. It was smaller than their current location, and there was a ranch for sale. It was perfect. So, they picked up and moved to Diznae. Now twenty-one, Rain helps her father operate and run a small horse ranch. Her mother is doing better, but she still has her down days. Rain just sees every day as a new adventure.
